The obvious choice for me was to dive deeper into WordPress and create a larger website based on our experience with the Commerce assignment. I wanted to go deeper into the WooCommerce capabilities and really explore the categories, attributes, and variations to create a more robust shoping experience. I also wanted to create more product pages this time around and add some landing pages as well. A friend of mine just opened a pro tennis shop in Roswell \u2013\u00a0Sutton Total Tennis \u2013\u00a0and I used it as inspiration for this project.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

I first started this project by redesigning the brand logo for the store. The original logo lacked any real connection to the sport itself, and i wanted to bring in an element of the court along with a more dynamic shape. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next, I needed to ground the brand in some of the foundational design elements that would be carried over to the site itself. I knew the tilted logo could be tricky in the nav, so I needed a cropped solution that would allow the logo to be sized up and readable without losing the consistency with the rest of it’s placements. The store already had it’s primary print colors established but I needed a softer color to serve as a base to the site. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

From here, it was on to the site journey. Two of the stores strongest and most consistent revenue streams are from returning customers for racquet restringing and lessons for all types of players. I wanted to make sure these were not only standout links on the homepage, but their landing pages had enough SEO word count value to attract more traffic. And while the store relies on foot-traffic for the remaining revenue, they want to start selling key items like newly released racquets, higher-level shoes, and tennis bags online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once I had a rough idea of how I wanted to design the homepage and the landing pages, I turned my attention to the products themselves. I wanted to make sure I had enough variety of each product type that they would likely sell online. So, I created 21 fully built out product pages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I originally really wanted to focus on the attributes and variables for each product type so I could easily categorize the items and make the homepage more directly shoppable. For example, when clicking on “Shop Now” from the “Tennis Racquets” highlight on the homepage, it would take you to a shop listing page categorizing just<\/em><\/strong> the racquets on the store and nothing else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This also works on the “Tennis Shoes” and “Tennis Bags” highlighted “Shop Now” links.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I developed out each of the Product Pages, I wanted to make sure I gave the consumers all of the expected data about size, weight, colors, and more. If there were product videos available, I included them. I set all of the Brand and Category filters to be fully functional. I added all of the expected Product specs for each product as well, ensuring customers could find all of that under “Additional Information” for each product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the proudest accomplishments* I had on these pages was sorting out how to make those “Attributes” and “Variables” functional for product selection. For shoes, it was just a matter of making the size selectable on the product page \u2013 and with Men’s and Women’s sizing being unique to that shoe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And even better, with each racquet, I was able to have several grip sizes with no price change no matter what size you selected. And then the added string type difference that did change the total price* of the racquet regardless of what grip size you choose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

*However… I had a bad experience with the plug-in that was supposed<\/strong> to change my Product Page pricing to the lowest value and the range was hidden until you selected it. Sounds great, but it didn’t work at all. When I uninstalled it, it seemed to have broken my variable assigned pricing completely. As of writing this, I haven’t been able to fix this issue \u2013\u00a0but I am continuing to try. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the end, I think I’ve created a functional e-commerce site for the Sutton Total Tennis store. The homepage is very shoppable from it’s hero panel directly to that Product Page, the three key product categories are immediately shoppable to listing pages, and the two main services are loud and clear here. The landing pages I created are as informative as they are SEO rich. And, the Product Pages are robust and highly informed with all of the detail any consumer would be looking for. I’m proud of how this site came out and how deep my exploration was here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
